Everyone that see’s this painting thinks of Adam and Eve but it actually represents Spring and Fall. One side of the tree has citrus fruits because Claremont is known for citrus fruits like oranges, grapefruits, tangerines and lemons. The women in the picture is holding the only fruit that is not a citrus fruit, an apple. Women often are the ones that prepare foods and/or select foods for their families – these decisions can be heavy decisions for women. Women want to provide the right nourishment to their families – the apple represents the struggle.
On the other side is a man in the Fall side of the tree. This man has his hand out. He is providing his protection, his contribution to the fruit, and his support to the women.
